Hyundai's hard work for the 2026 WRC season starts next week

The WRC sporting director of Hyundai Motorsport, Andrew Wheatley, reveals that the team will start preparing for the 2026 WRC season next week being confident afther the performance of the i20N on the final two rounds of this year's championship.

The Alzenau-based team had only secured two wins at the 2025 WRC season as Ott Tanak and Thierry Neuville were victorious in Greece and Saudi Arabia respectively. This means that Toyota drivers managed to outscore Hyundai by winning twelve events during the 2025 season. However, Hyundai used many jokers in order to upgrade the i20N during this year. The most of the updates were focused on the suspension as well as to solve some major reliability problems, such as the driveshaft. Hyundai will start its preparation for the 2026 WRC season next week while it is has yet to confirm its driver line-up for next season. It is speculated that Adrien Fourmaux and Thierry Neuville have already secured a full-time programme with the team which is currently looking its options for the third i20N.

"It’s been really positive", Wheatley said.

"The whole team has done an incredible job - the team back at base, the team here on the rally, the design and engineering groups.

"Everybody has been so reactive in working to understand how we can address some of the challenges we had earlier in the year.

"Japan was the first step.

"The Tarmac pace was really encouraging, and Saudi Arabia is another step along the way.

"But it’s only the second step, and the real hard work for Monte Carlo starts now.

"The team begin their programmes next week, and that shows how dedicated we are to making next year a success".
